A New Human Library Depot in Perth for Exploring Prejudices in a Safer Way
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Human Library Perth, a new local depot for the global Human Library Organization, which will enable us to bring meaningful conversations to Australia in the near future. The Perth depot will create a safe, welcoming dialogue room where Readers and Books can experience various conversations openly, without condemnation and always with respect.
New Beginning in Perth
Our local depot manager Kate Hansen, together with a team of Librarians, is currently working on the re-launch of the Perth depot. She finds it important to create the space for dialogue in order to foster societal change:
“The Human Library events bring unique personal conversations designed to challenge stigma and stereotypes and our world needs these conversations more than ever. I believe that through such personal conversations we can contribute to greater human cohesion across social, religious and ethnic divisions.”
Already now, Kate is working with many interesting Books that are looking forward to sharing their stories. New Books and Librarians are always needed when establishing a new long-term project like this one, so do not hesitate to apply, in case this sounds interesting to you.
Local Project with Global Impact
“We are incredibly proud and excited to once again have books in circulation in Perth. I want to thank all the volunteer Librarians and Books for helping us create learning opportunities where we can explore our diversity in a safe space. We hope in the coming period to establish a strong gallery of publishing partners locally that will enable us to reach many Readers across the international community,” comments Ronni Abergel, the founder of the Human Library, who has been creating spaces for open conversations for close to 25 years.
Currently, the Human Library is present in more than 80 countries around the world. Most of these events are organized by our local publishing partners. However, local depots, like the one in Perth, enable our events to happen on a regular basis and help strengthen relationships within the local community.
Join the Human Library Perth at the upcoming event on the 30th November in the State Library of Western Australia, where you can experience firsthand how powerful a personal conversation can be in changing perceptions and building a stronger, more understanding community. In case you are not from Australia, but know someone living there, please help us by spreading the word about this new initiative. Together, we create a world where understanding matters – one conversation at a time.
