The Human Library is data responsible for your personal data, and therefore the Human Library is responsible for storing and using your personal data. This also applies to cases in which we use the data in collaboration with our partners. WHY WE USE PERSONAL DATA
At the Human Library readers kan borrow our human books in order to have a personal conversation about the topic they represent. Our mission is to create a platform for open and unprejudiced dialogue, where you can talk about taboo subjects. This means that we need to know about sensitive information, such as religion, health and sexual orientation. However, it’s important to stress that we don’t retrieve all of this information on every volunteer, we only need the specific information related to the title and topic that the individual volunteer represents.
Categories of information
At the Human Library we manage both the regular and the sensitive information, below you can see what these entails.
Regular information
- Full name
- Email address
- Applications (forms and possibly questionnaires)
- Address
- Phone number
- Pictures, videos etc.
Sensitive information:
- Information regarding health
- Racial or ethnic affiliation
- Political, religious or philosophical belief
- Sexual relationships or orientation
- Offenses
Using and storing of personal data
They regular and the sensitive information is only processed simultaneously in relations to applications sent by email, and in the secretariat’s internal overview of the volunteers within the organization. On our website we use information about the volunteer’s experiences, in order to give an insight into the different vulnerable groups we work with.
The objective with this is, so that curious users of the Human Library can have a look at our selection of different titles. We don’t provide sensitive information on the volunteers, but information about their subjects, which can’t be linked to the individual.
Apart from this, the sensitive information is used as titles to represents the different volunteers at our events. The regular information is used to keep in touch with out volunteers, they are not shared with any third parties.
In some instances it might be necessary to share the information with a third party partner, in such instances it will always happen with explicit content from the volunteer. We also use pictures and videos of our volunteers and users or the Human Library. This material is solely used for the press, promotion and communication of the Human Library’s work.
Those who become a voluntary human book in the organization, and therefore give up sensitive information. Hereby give the Human Library written permission to use their data for the above mentioned use and purpose. In addition every volunteer, employee, partner etc. sign a confidentiality agreement.
Your rights
Your membership of the Human Library is principally life long, but it is in within your right, at any time to leave, if that happens you data will automatically be deleted.
You are entitled to, at any time gain insight into what information we have on you. You also have the right to object or to get the information deleted, if you no longer wish to be a part of the organization.
Apart from this, you can also ask not to be featured in any picture and video material, as well as your full name not to appear on any of our digital platforms.
