San Antonio Public Library
After reading about the success of other Human Library events, the local organizers from the John Igo Branch of the San Antonio Public Library became eager to host their first event in San Antonio. We want to give our patrons the opportunity to experience checking out a living book and all of the privileges that will entail. The readers will be able to ask the book anything and learn about people/professions they otherwise would not encounter, says interim branch manager Haley Holmes.
The first one day event will take place on April 18th, 2009 and the plan is to present a variety of people. The titles that organizers are considering putting on the shelf include a tattoo artist, musician, politician, monk, priest, cowboy, mortician, forensic scientist, male ballerina. The event will focus on professions that have definite stereotypes attached to them.
By holding a Human Library event, we will be able to offer a unique opportunity to the public, the ability to learn from a field expert and to ask whatever they’ve always wondered, closes Haley Holmes.
