Human Library - Take out a prejudice

US Virgin Islands getting ready

The once Danish Virgin Islands (sold to the United States in 1917) will be among the many territories and countries to introduce the Human Library in 2010. Greece held their first pilot event only a few days ago, and so the list of nations offering the Human Library to readers is still growing strong. The Maldives are also shortlisted to launch this spring along with Korea and more countries will follow soon.

UK, US and Canada updates

In the United Kingdom the first national conference for Human Library organizers took place at the end of last year and part of the outcomes is a brand new Human Library Tool Kit going into print later this month, more information to follow on the toolkit. The conference and dedicated local champions such as Oz Osborne and Nick Little, has helped spur even more events and this spring a series of workshops will take place to further enhance the multiplying effect.

The United States is still growing strong and so more states are joining the soon to be national network of Human Library organizers as the Human Library Organization incorporates in the US. Also a documentary about the Human Library is in its early preparation stages. New on the list of states is the beautiful Connecticut with more to be announced in the coming weeks.

In Canada the Ontario Library Association (OLA) is indeed a very helpful partner in promoting the Human Library to its many members. A two-day Human Library event is scheduled to take place at the end of February in correlation with the OLA´s Super Conference (see the activities section for more info).

Growing through the transition period

Despite the obvious transition period the concept is growing and spreading faster each day and so on behalf of the Human Library team, a big thank you to all local champions around the world, for your continued efforts and inspiring work to create a space for the understanding of diversity. And for integrating the Human Library in those efforts. 2010 marks the 10th anniversary for the introduction of the Human Library and it looks to be the biggest year yet.
