Human Library - Take out a prejudice

Calgary Public Library plot massive Human Library launch

The Canadians are getting serious about their Human Library. On March 21st, visitors at five different branches of the Calgary Public Library can take out a Living Book. The series of events represents the largest launch by a single organizer in the history of the Human Library.

Working with human rights is nothing new for the Calgary Public Library, but working with the Human Library is about "creating a culture of understanding among the patrons of the institutions", says Manager of Calgary Central Library and project coordinator, Gerry Burger-Martindale.

Next year will be bigger than 2008.

This year England, Spain, Serbia, Scotland and the United States have introduced the Human Library. In December, Japan will be added to the list of countries using the Human Library. 2008 has seen more Living Libraries than ever before and next year will be bigger still with the Human Library Festival in Copenhagen next summer, expansion of the program in the United States and in the UK and a lot more events across the world.
