Human Library - Take out a prejudice

Article about the Human Library in London spark debate in Japan.

One of Japans largest newspapers, the ASAHI Shimbun, published a report from the Human Library held in London on May 31st. The article reflects on the idea and the approach to facing prejudices. And it would seem that the readers of the ASAHI are keen on facing their own stereotypes.

Wonderful response from readers.Image of article brought in the ASAHI Newspaper.

According to Charlie Brown, the assistant correspondent in the London offices, the article has brought out a wonderful response since its publication late last month.

It seems to have really struck a chord with the readers and apparently out there in the blogosphere, it's provoked a lot of discussion. So much so that it's been mentioned again in our front page Tenseijingo column which is a sort of 'thought for the day' looking at philosophical and cultural questions of interest to Japanese society. From what we can see, it would not be surprising if people consider doing something similar in Japan. If so, we'll definitely be interested in covering any such developments says Brown.

Reactions have also begun to reach back to the network in the form increased traffic to the website from Japan and inquiries from potential new organizers and hosts.

The article was produced in connection with the May 31st Human Library at the White Chapel Idea Store. In the large picture the facially disfigured, Victoria, from the Association Changing Faces, is lending herself out for the day. Read the report from the IDEA Store event or visit the GALLERIES to see more pictures from the event.
